Gaze Upon A Marvel

Why? Because despite uncertain times…spring is here!

SPRINGY WONDER

The tiny chiffchaff is the first visitor to return to the UK from its winter feeding ground in the Mediterranean and North Africa.
Welcome back chiffchaff.

Wafting into the UK on March 20th, to be precise, which depending on when you’re reading this, might be today.

It’s the astronomical spring, arriving with the vernal equinox (vs the meteorological spring which is always March 1). It’s the one that counts, marked by the celestial position of the sun in relation to earth…the one that nature listens to…(we all knew that, right?!)

The ground’s awakening, the buds bursting, the trees greening, the butterflies emerging, the birds returning. We know it might be raining. And corona is around. But still. It’s spring! It’s here.

And?

We thought the most wonderful spring-like thing we could all do this week, especially in light of what the world is facing right now and any anxiety we might feel, is to step outside, be still, touch the dew, listen to the birdsong…gaze upon a marvel…

And for a little warbling fun…here’s how to recognise those spring tweeters by their song. It’s gorgeous, promise.

We…

Sshh…we’re marvel gazing…(and Aimee’s looking up what a vernal equinox is…)

And I think to myself, what a marvellous world
